Synopsis

In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?

Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.

As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.

When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.

My ranting: purple starpurple starpurple starpurple starpurple star/5

This book was by far my favorite in the series thus far. I am so overwhelmed with emotions I can barely function at the moment. Everything about this book was raw emotion. From Mavens gut wrenching back story, to Mare being tortured not physically but mentally. My heart was racing the entire time I was reading this book!!!

I can’t fully decide what about this book I love so much. For some reason I really enjoyed the first half of the book where Mare is captured. Mainly because in doing so she realized all the mistakes she made back at the Notch. She understands she can’t pull away from everyone she loves and she knew she couldn’t give in to then darkness. Even though it would have been so easy. She kept fighting no matter what. She never gave up hope that she would one day get the hell out of there.

Something I love love love about books is chapters that change perspective. I loved how some chapters were about Mare while others where told through the eyes of Cameron and eventually Evangeline(don’t get me started) This method to me just helps the book run more smoothly. I don’t really have to guess what happens. I hate filling in the blanks when it comes to books. I wish wish wish there has been a few chapters with Mavens perspective. That would have been very interesting to read. I am very much on the fence with him. I still don’t know whether I like him or not.

The ending was the absolute worst for me. I remember reading this book last year and just sitting there like a fish out of water. It was the BIGGEST cliff hanger I have ever encountered. I am so very grateful to myself that I am rereading these books. Now I can jump into War Storm without a question but with a very broken heart.

My expectations for War Storm are extremely high. With everything that has happened in this book I am expecting a full resolution. I want to know that the Scarlet Guard was successful in trying to get equal rights, I want to know who Mares ends up with, I want to do that Mavens head ends up on spike. Wish me luck!

My rant

I still don’t get why peeps like Maven! I mean okay I get it. It’s not his fault he’s crazy but I just guess I missed the part when he feel in love with Mare? Like if he loved her even a little why did he even let his mother do those things to her? I guess he didn’t have a choice but still! I just don’t understand where his obsession came from.

It irked the hell out of me that after Mare is rescued we basically hear nothing of Maven. Not a whisper.(pun intended) Not any short of reaction has to how he must be dealing with the lost of Mare. I want to know! I desperately hope War Storm opens up with a chapter from him.

Cal. You. Fucking. Asshole.

He actually picked the crown. Are you serious? After everything he fought for. That Mare fought for he is basically going to throw it all away. Like seriously man. I am so pissed at him I don’t see how this series can end in any way other than pain and possibly his death.

I can’t get over how bad ass Farley is! She just had a kid and she’s already up and back in action! She is definitely one of my favorite characters!

I’m going to go read War Storm now. Its over 600 pages I don’t know if I can handle this! Wish me luck!!

Until next time.

Keep on reading.

Erin.
